How do I clean my awning?
Maintenance cleaning of an awning cloth should be done regularly. It consists of removing loosely adhering dirt as well as removing small stains. Note: Awning fabrics are not washing items!

Pre-treatment

Loose dirt should be removed from the awning cloth in advance. To increase the cleaning effect, the awning cloth should be moistened with clear, pure water using a garden hose. This will easily dissolve heavily encrusted dirt particles and make them easier to remove.  Afterwards, remove the loosened dirt particles by additional hosing. Do not brush out stains dry, as there is a risk of the dirt being rubbed into the fibers and in-between spaces of the fiber!!! Do not use high-pressure cleaners for cleaning, as there is a risk of damaging seams and materials!

Cleaning procedure

General soiling or even light stains can be treated with the help of an approx. 5-10% solution of mild detergent and lukewarm water (max. 40° C). To do this, foam up the cleaning solution by dipping and squeezing out a sponge and apply it as a foam to the soiled areas/stains. Then allow the foam to act for approx. 15-20 minutes and rinse off with plenty of fresh water. Repeat this procedure until the dirt or light stains have been completely removed.
CAUTION: Strong friction with the help of hard brushes or sponges can cause roughening or damage to the awning cloth!

Post-treatment

After-treatment with plenty of fresh water is absolutely necessary to remove all components of the cleaning agent. The better the after-cleaning and thus the removal of the cleaning agent is done, the less the degradation of the water-repellent property of an awning cloth.

Impregnation

If the water-repellent property of an awning cloth is reduced by cleaning, the weather protection and beading effect can be restored by re-impregnation, depending on the type of fabric.

General info

Any kind of cleaning of an awning fabric, which is done with the support of cleaning agents, can lead to a reduction of the original protective function of the fabric. Therefore, from the manufacturer's point of view, it is necessary to reimpregnate after spot or surface cleaning, so that the treated awning fabric regains sufficient weather protection.
Due to the wide range of impregnating agents available and the many different types of fabric, it is not possible to give recommendations on specific products. In any case, the suitability for textiles should be taken into account when choosing an impregnating agent.
In the course of environmental protection, it should be noted that only water-soluble impregnating agents are used - for the sake of the environment. It is also essential to follow the manufacturer's warnings and instructions for use, as impregnating agents can cause irritation to the skin and eyes. An excerpt from the guideline for cleaning and care of awning cloths.

What is a cause for complaint?

The following occurences are not grounds for complaint:

Certain phenomena in the awning fabric cannot be completely ruled out, even with the current state of the art.
However, these do not affect the value or usability of the awning.

Creases

Occur when the awning fabric is made up and folded.
A dark line may be visible at the point of the fold in backlighting, especially with light colors.

Waviness in the seam and sheet area.

May occur along the side seams, in the seam area and in the middle of the panels.
The fabric is doubled at the seams. This results in different roll-up diameters.
This effect is further intensified by the unavoidable sagging of the winding shaft and the drop profile.

Waterproof / Rain resistance

Polyacrylic awning fabrics are impregnated with a water repellent finish.
Therefore, they remain rain resistant at an angle of inclination of at least 14° during a short, light rainfall.
During longer periods of rain or heavy rainfall, the awning must be retracted.
If the fabric has become wet, it is imperative that the awning be extended again later to dry.

Side panel elongation

The fabric is usually kept under tension by an active spring system.
Seams and hems act as reinforcement, but they must also withstand most of the stress.
When the fabric is rolled up, seams and hems are flattened and thus increase in length.
This can cause the side hems to droop slightly.

What is the difference between a retractable awning and a cassette awning?

Basically, both product categories resemble each other at first glance, as they are the same in terms of their basic nature. Box/cassette awnings are characterized by a robust aluminum case - this case provides protection from the weather and at the same time hides the entire technology as well as the awning fabric in a modern and elegant shell (=box/cassette). On the hand, retractable awnings do not have a full cassette around the awning - so they look very slim and discreet. Although they do not have the awning box, there is no lack of stability, technology and functionality. This creates a particularly attractive price-performance ratio for the awning.
