W500 - Large conservatory blind

The VARISOL W500 was designed as a special sun protection awning for installation above large conservatories. The entire design of the awning is laid out for trouble-free, silent and safe operation. VARISOL W500 is suitable for solving a major portion of the shade problems in the sector of conservatory/sunroom and glass-roof shading. It is always produced with corner deflection - to give additional frontal shading.

  • The awning case is assembled from two extruded aluminium sections. The sectional thickness is 2.0 mm. The bottom profile of the case and the top profile are joined together with internal supporting sectional elements. On the sides, the case is closed using end covers made of cast aluminium. The height of the case is 170 mm. The top of the case has a depth of 230 mm. Ascetically pleasing connection of the front rails to the awning cassette due to the revolving bearing of the front rail. On installation, the awning case is positioned on the guide rails. Additional mounting attachment of the case is not necessary for conservatories. Should the awning field width exceed 6,000 mm, one case support will have to be installed.
  • The guide rails are made of extruded aluminium profiles with a sectional thickness of 1.5 mm. There are two different types of profiles. For single units, guide rails on both the right and left side are applied, for multiple units, additional double guide rails at the contact point are applied. The slide clips of the profiles have a C-shape design so that the front rail cannot drop out. A groove in the lower chamber provides for easy retraction of the drawbelts. A brush-type seal is drawn in at the upper chamber as a wind protection for the belt. On the lower sides of the guide rails there are special channels for attachment of the mounting brackets.
  • The roller tube is made of a galvanised steel cleatted tube with the dimensions 85 x 1 mm (rollers for awning field widths from 4,500 mm are 85 x 1.25 mm). The awning canvass is attached in the cleat using a special pressure insert strip and can be pulled off without removing the awning canvass.
  • The front rail is made out of a aluminium profile with a wall thickness of 2,5 mm. The front rail is closed on the side by aluminium end caps. The guide roller, is made of forged aluminium, with two PVC-rolls running on TEFLON-bushings on a stainless stell pin.
  • Dependent on the width and extension of the awning field, a fabric support tube is prescribed for support of the fabric. 
  • The awning drive is effected via a 230 V tubular motor. A maximum of two awning fields can be driven using the motor. To switch off the movement of the awning precisely, the motor is equipped with an electronic limit stop deactivation.
  • The fabric consists of a woven ACRYLIC or POLYESTER material having a weight of approx. 300 g/sq.m. The canvassing is sown together from sheets of material up to 1200 mm in width. As an option, SOLTIS-Screen can be utilised as canvassing material. In this case, the maximum possible width is, however, 5,000 mm width per awning field at a maximum extension of 4,000 mm (if the width or projection exceeds 170 cm, the SOLTIS fabric will be carried out with transverse seams).
  • Two independently acting spring units with torsion springs are installed into the canvass roller. As drawing medium, a protruding textile belt with intenal "KEVLAR"-threads is applied. When the awning is retracted, this drawbelt is hooked with low spring tension onto the front rail. The belts are cut to length and are premounted so that no measurements or cutting are necessary. The changing coil diameters of the draw belt and canvassing relative to each other are compensated by the spring units. As a consequence the front rail is always pulled forward uniformly and jamming is, therefore, virtually eliminated. In the retracted position, the awning is under low spring pressure of only 7 - 10 kg per spring unit. The spring tension is continuously increased during extension movement to a maximum value of approx. 30 kg per spring unit. In this way, the tension system guarantees an optimal coiling of the awning canvassing and prevents an overstretching of the canvassing seams and side border.
  • The tracking and guide rollers are made of low-friction nylon with Teflon bushings and run on strong stainless steel pins. In conjunction with the textile draw belt, they add to the extreme silent operation of the awning.
  • Through the application of angle joints made of cast aluminium members with internal belt routing rollers, the VARISOL W500 can also be additionally used for shading vertical glass surfaces or solar bends. The angle joints are made of two arc segments joined together. By sawing the individual segments, any routing angle from almost horizontal to up to 90 degrees can be attained. The arc segments are connected to each other using stainless steel bolts. The stainless steel bolts serve simultaneously as bearings for the canvassing guide roller, made of aluminium, with an 80 mm diameter.
  • The mounting bracket consists of an aluminium plate as a base as well as an extruded spacing section. At the same time, the spacing section is designed to accept and fix a special clamping part. The base of the mounting bracket contains transversely arranged slotted holes so that a possible missing parallelity of the conservatory sections can be compensated. The complete bracket can be premounted to the conservatory sectional element. The clamping parts are simply pushed to the guide rail, inserted into the mounting bracket and clamped by tightening a threaded pin. Optional side-adjustable brackets can be supplied. These brackets are made of powder coated cast aluminium and have a two-piece design. The lower mounting piece can be premounted on the conservatory sectional element. The upper mounting piece is simply pushed onto the guide rail and the two mounting pieces are screwed together. Owing to the design of the connection in the upper mounting piece which is a slotted hole, an adjustment range of 30 mm is provided, with which a possible out of square of the conservatory can be compensated. The distance between the conservatory profiles and the lower edge of the guide rail is 97 mm so that a good air circulation between the glass roof and the awning canvassing is guaranteed. With the help of various clearance brackets made of aluminium, the distance between the glass roof and the conservatory awning can be increased (e.g. because of opening windows).
